Disappearing quilt blocks are a popular technique used to create visually stunning patterns that are surprisingly easy to make. In this tutorial, we'll guide you through the process of creating your own disappearing quilt block, including the tools and materials you'll need, as well as some helpful tips and tricks along the way. Materials to make one block:
- (1) 5" x 5" square Fabric A
- (1) 5" x 5" square Fabric B
- (2) 5" x 5" square Fabric C
Sewing Instructions 🪡
- Arrange your squares so the print squares are on opposite corner. Sew together into two rows, press to the dark side. Sew the rows together making sure to nest the seams, to make one block.
- Press the seams open to reduce bulk.
- With right side facing up, cut the block 1 inch to the right from each sewn center seam. This should create 9 block pieces.
Variation A
- Rotate the left center and right center piece 180 degrees. Rotate the top middle, and bottom middle piece 180 degrees.
- Rotate the middle center piece 180 degrees.
- Sew the rows together and press the seams open.
- Trim the block to 8-1/2" square.
Variation B
- Swap the left center and right center piece, then swap the top middle, and bottom middle piece.
- Sew the rows together and press the seams open.
- Trim the block to 8-1/2" square.
