To create one unfinished 6-1/2" x 6-1/2" block you will need
Fabric A
(2) 3" x 3"
(1) 1-1/2" x 10
Fabric B
(1) 2-1/2" x 2-1/2"
(2) 3" x 3"
(1) 1-1/2" x 10
Making the HST's
To make the HST's start by placing one 3" square of fabric A and B right sides together.
Take a fabric marking pen and draw a diagonal line from the top right corner to the bottom left as shown in the diagram in the PDF pattern.
Using a 1.8 stitch length, sew a scant 1/4 inch seam on either side of the line. Iron the block, then cut it in half on the line you drew to create 2 HST’s.
Repeat on the remaining 3" squares of fabric to create four blocks. Trim to 2-1/2" square and press as desired.
Making the Strip set
To make the next block take one 1-1/2" x 10" strip of fabric A and B and place them right sides together.
Sew a scant 1/4" seam on one of the 10" long edges. Open the fabric and iron to the dark side.
Using a rotary cutter, cut the strip set into four 2-1/2" squares.
Assembling the Block 🪡
Arrange the blocks as depicted in the PDF pattern. Sew into rows, press as desired then sew the rows together. The unfinished size for these dimensions should measure approximately 6-1-2".
Finishing Touches
Once your churn dash block is complete, give it a final press with an iron to ensure all the seams are flat and the block is crisp and trim any excess threads.
